My name is Gavin Buys - also known as Gravel - and I have been involved with music all my life. In the late 80’s I started doing live sound for various bands. In the early 90’s I joined Street Level Studios as a Recording Engineer doing commercials by day and music by night. We had notable success with the band “ the Usual” winning two Sama awards and being nominated for six in total. All told I recorded more than twenty albums in a six-year period.

While this was happening, we also did a lot of radio and television commercials for clients like Saatchi & Saatchi, Berry Bush, Bester Burke and Jupiter Drawing Room to name a few. Quite a few of these ads won awards.

In 2000 I went on my own and moved into television audio doing everything from location sound to floor managing live broadcasts of game shows and sporting events. Earlier this year I was given the opportunity to build my own studio again sharing premises with friends who run a company called Big Fish TV in the Old Castle Breweries building in Woodstock, Cape Town.
